Happy LunchtimesThe Happy Lunchtimes initiative gives pupils and staff a clear structure to focus on positive play and positive behaviour management during lunchtimes. It enthuses everyone and leads to improvements big and small.
Children like the initiative because it provides a wider range of activities at lunchtimes with something for every different ‘play-type.’ It also creates a calmer and more consistent approach to discipline, and has ‘something for everyone.’ At lunchtimes we now have a zoned area with a new activity every day. This runs alongside football, ball games, and the toys that are always available. There are clear rewards for good choices and improved behaviour, pom-poms add to our school merit system, special certificate in assembly and a half termly Top Table, when lunchtime supervisors nominate one child from each year group (and a friend) to eat at the top table known as the Golden Table, in the hall. Alongside this there are clear consequences if children make the wrong choices at lunchtime. |
