Phones in School

We have noticed a significant increase in the number of children bringing mobile phones into school each day. While we understand that some parents feel it is necessary for children who walk to and from school to have a phone for personal safety, we are also seeing many children bring phones even when they are being collected at the end of the day. We kindly ask parents to consider whether their child really needs to bring a mobile phone into school.

For those children who do bring a phone, it must be switched off on arrival and handed in at the school office in the morning. Phones will then be returned at the gate at the end of the school day. Please also remind your child that phones should not be turned back on until they are off the school site.
Thank you for your support in helping us to keep school a safe and focused place for learning.

Food for thought…

This year at Ashby Hill Top we are starting to think about children’s screen time and smartphone use. Every family’s situation is different – but one thing is clear: more and more adults and professionals are questioning the impact of too much screentime on our children.

In upcoming newsletters, I’ll be talking about smartphone use and screentime and how we can best support our children with this important issue. After sharing some ideas and guidance, I’d love to hear your views through a short questionnaire. Your feedback will help us work together to find the best ways forward for our school community.

Alongside this, we will be working hard in school to further enhance children's well-being, development, and learning through improved opportunities to play, in learning time and at break and lunchtimes.
