School Admissions
Ashby Hill Top Primary School is a thriving and popular school serving the community of Ashby.
We have one Foundation Stage intake, in September. Parents and carers need to apply for a place at our school via the local authority by mid-January and places are confirmed in April. It is important to apply on time to have the best chance of securing a place at your preferred school. We hold open an open evening in the Autumn term and also offer tours around the school during the school day- please contact us to find out more. Admission to Ashby Hill Top Primary School Academy is governed by Leicestershire County Council (LCC). Applications are open for parents looking for a place for their child in Reception, starting in August 2025, and close on 15th January, 2025. If you miss this date, you can still make an application for your child, though this will be considered as a late. You can do this here: Leicestershire Local Authority website. Parents are informed of which school their child has been allocated on Primary National Offer Day- 16th April 2025 (or the next working day). The local authority use our Admissions Policy to guide them in offering places at our school. If you wish to move your child to us from a different school, this is called a mid term transfer. You will again need to use the LCC online application system and also contact our school to discuss this process. Our Admission Policy is on our Policy page. The Leicestershire County Council Policy can be found here. The Planned Admission Number is 45 students per year. (Total pupils 315) Induction |

We provide a gradual induction programme for our new Foundation Stage children and their parents.
Parents are invited to an information evening in the Summer Term, before children start, and we invite children into school for a short ‘taster’ session in the Summer Term too. Induction packs provide information about what happens in school and includes a number of forms for parents to complete and sign. New children start school, after the summer holidays, part time to begin with, building to full time very quickly.
New children settle very quickly at our school; we encourage independence from the start but are also mindful that some need a little more time to get used to routines.
Those children, who join us part way through the year may start school on an agreed date which is negotiated with the school.
Some children join us at the end of the summer term and we ask them to attend on the nominated induction days when all children move to their new classes. Those children who may join us part way through the year are welcome to have an induction day which should be negotiated with the school.
